Ride With Reggie Miller This Weekend

We recently wrote about how charity rides were making the move online, with the help of programs like Zwift, to reach a broader audience and raise more money for good causes. This Saturday, November 6 at 7:00 a.m. PDT, Zwift is hosting a ride to raise awareness and funds for diversity in cycling with host rider retired NBA Legend Reggie Miller.

While Reggie is famous for his basketball performances with the Pacers, a nasty three pointer and an amusing beef with Spike Lee, he has become a passionate cyclist in his retirement and wants to spread his joy for the sport with others who may not benefit from cycling’s more traditional pathways. The November 6 “Ride With Reggie” event has the lofty goal of setting a world record for Zwift participation, but more importantly hopes to raise awareness, and funds, for diversity in cycling.

The ride will last about 90 minutes and cover 30 miles over three loops of the 2015 UCI Richmond Worlds Course. The event isn’t a race, and is open to riders of all abilities and skill levels. Participation in the event will unlock the Castelli RWR virtual kit for your Zwift avatar and give you the chance to get the real life version, as well as prizes from Castelli, ENVE, fizik, Kask and Moots.

Reggie Miller will host the ride, but the event promises visits from other notable guests as well. Riders are asked to consider making a $2 donation through USA Cycling here that will help establish cycling programs at historically Black colleges and universities. You can join the ride on the Zwift app. Learn more about the ride at Zwift.com.

You don’t have to participate in the ride to donate, and should consider giving either way. A cycling world that is more diverse and accepting is a better cycling world for us all.
